Secure Login
As you login, your user and PIN are encrypted and passed to the secure Account Access area via a SSL connection. After logging in, a padlock will appear in the lower right-hand corner of your Account Access screen to indicate that security (SSL) is present. During each secure Internet session, your computer and the Account Access sites are passing encrypted messages that only those sites can understand.
Automatic Logoff
For your protection, if there is no activity on your Account Access site for an extended period of time, the site automatically logs you off. Should you wish to reenter the site, simply log in with your user ID and Password.
More information regarding Internet security:
The Hartford uses a "secure Internet session" through a protocol called SSL (Secure Socket Layer) to encrypt all information passed over the Internet, from our server to your browser. SSL technology is a protocol for managing the security of a message transmission on the Internet. Within the www.thehartford.co.uk login page, controls are enforced which direct the login data to the appropriate secured URL.
As soon as you hit the submit button during the login process an SSL session is established and your user ID and password are encrypted. Only after it is encrypted is your data passed to the secured Account Access site via the SSL connection. This information can only be interpreted by the receiving site, which resides in a secured domain. This process ensures that the login information will be safely passed to this secured Account Access site.

Design and Layout
The design and layout of The Hartford website pages are carefully planned to be clear and allow for easy navigation. For example, the text is black against a white background making it clearly visible, and headings are clearly distinguishable. Links to non- Hartford pages open in new browser windows.
Standard style sheets have been developed which size fonts consistently across all supported browsers. Style sheets are used to control the presentation of all web pages and the use of a sans-serif font is set as default. If your browser does not support style sheets, the content of each page is still readable. The font size can be increased or reduced throughout the site by changing your browser settings.
Navigation of the main sections within the site is present on all main pages and allows for easy access to any part of the site from any page.
Each page contains a standard bottom banner, which includes legal notice, privacy policy and this usability guide.
